Learning Services

One-on-one and specialized support and strategy development for students who may be struggling to reach their academic potential. We work with students with specific learning profiles (Learning Disabilities, ADHD, ASD/Asperger’s Disorder) to develop effective approaches to task management and their coursework based on their unique set of strengths and weaknesses. This specialized support can focus on recommendations made in recent psycho-educational assessment reports in a practical way that the student can implement and feel empowered.

Educational Therapy

Educational therapy is a direct, strength-based intervention for students with learning difficulties similar to occupational and speech therapies. Therapy is individualized and aims the intervention just above the student’s level of functioning and raises expectations for performance. Students are trained to view themselves as competent, confident learners by addressing any and all cognition, perception, emotion and academic barriers. Specifically, it is a way to learn and practice strategies unique to each learning disability that are not taught in school by stimulating the areas of weakness through direct individualized intervention.

Strategies may include:

  • Study skills – how to effectively study

  • Academic organization – strategies to help organize school work and track tests and assignments

  • Life skills – everything from navigating social situations, communication, assertiveness to dealing with change

  • ADHD strategies – ways to improve focus, daily structuring, memory strategies/improvement

  • Executive functioning strategies – ways to tackle the different functions and improve them

  • Reduction of test anxiety – strategies to ease anxiety before and during tests (including study strategies)

  • Academic strategies (tackling the impact of learning disabilities) - learning and working on the different skills impacted/affected by their diagnosis
